Areas with the fastest broadband in the UK

Ranked on what premises can actually order: superfast coverage first, gigabit-capable coverage close behind.

In short

The UK areas with the fastest broadband are ranked here on Ofcom Connected Nations coverage - the share of premises able to get superfast and gigabit-capable services - rather than on advertised speeds. The current top three are Derby (98), Leicester (98) and Middlesbrough (98).

About this ranking

How is the broadband ranking built?

From Ofcom Connected Nations fixed coverage data at local authority level: the share of premises able to get superfast broadband of 30 Mbit/s or more, and the share able to get a gigabit-capable connection. The two are combined into a 0 to 100 score. Right now the highest are Derby (98/100), Leicester (98/100), Middlesbrough (98/100).

Is this the speed I would actually get?

No. Coverage data describes what premises are able to order, not what any single line achieves. Contention, in-home wiring and the package bought all change the real figure. Use this to shortlist an area, then check the specific address with the Ofcom broadband checker.

Why do neighbouring towns show the same figure?

Because Ofcom publishes coverage per local authority, so every town and postcode inside a council shares it. Availability genuinely varies street by street within any authority, which is why the address check matters more here than in most categories.
