About TrackPostcode.UK
Free, transparent UK area reports from open data.
TrackPostcode.UK turns open UK data into one clear picture of an area: what it costs, whether you could afford it, and what daily life is like. It is open-source intelligence (OSINT) for choosing where to live - every figure comes from a published government or public dataset you can check yourself. Proudly headquartered in Dundee, located within one of Scotland’s most dynamic and fast-evolving centres for technology and innovation.
Where we cover
Reports cover England, Scotland and Wales: any postcode, outcode, town, city or council. Data comes at different levels of detail - weather, amenities, healthcare access, transport and air quality are measured around the exact point, as is crime in England and Wales, while cost of living, affordability, housing, employment and broadband are official council-area statistics, as are Scottish crime and English and Welsh education - and every report states which is which. Northern Ireland is not currently covered.
Everything published here is derived from open government data: principally the Office for National Statistics, HM Land Registry, police.uk and the Met Office, used under the Open Government Licence v3.0.
We believe area data should be free and transparent. Full reports carry no sign-up wall and nothing is blurred out. Every figure links to the public dataset it came from, and every score is built from a method we publish.
How we keep it accurate
Open data is easy to get and easy to get wrong. Councils are renamed, statistical codes change after boundary reviews, and dozens of British towns share a name with somewhere else entirely. Any of those can quietly attach one place's statistics to another place's report, and the page still looks perfectly normal.
So every figure we import is stamped with the authority it describes and that authority's official code, and an automated audit re-checks the whole site against those stamps: that each figure was recorded for the area reading it, that the coordinates behind the weather, crime and amenity scores actually sit inside the area named, and that anything fetched by lookup came back for the place we asked about. It covers every published area and every local authority we hold data for. Where a figure fails, it is withheld rather than published with a footnote. The methodology sets out exactly what is checked, and the data status page shows the live health of every feed.
The site currently carries no advertising. It may in future be funded by relevant advertising and optional premium tools, never by charging to see the basic report, and never by selling anybody's data: see the privacy and cookie policy.

Common questions about who we are
Who publishes TrackPostcode.UK?
TrackPostcode.UK is published from Dundee, Scotland. It is an independent site with no sponsor, no advertiser influence over a score and no paid placement in any ranking. Contact details are on the contact page and the company profiles are linked from this one.
How does TrackPostcode.UK make money?
At present it does not: the site carries no advertising and no advertising code, as the privacy and cookie policy states. It may in future be funded by relevant advertising and optional premium tools, in which case the cookie banner and the policy will say so before anything changes. Access to a full area report is free and will stay free, and no advertiser will ever be able to change a score, a ranking position or the wording of a report.
Is the data yours or somebody else's?
The underlying statistics are published by government bodies under the Open Government Licence, apart from amenity and healthcare locations, which come from OpenStreetMap under the Open Database Licence. Both are attributed on the sources page. What is ours is the scoring method, the way the categories are weighted and renormalised, and the derived index of scored areas, which our terms of use cover.
What do you do when a dataset is missing?
We show the gap. The category is left blank, excluded from the overall score, the remaining weights are rebalanced, and the report states how complete it is. We never fill a hole with a regional average or an estimate.
How do I report a figure that looks wrong?
Use the contact page and include the area and the category. Every figure traces back to a named public dataset, so a disagreement can normally be settled against the source rather than argued about.
How do you know a figure is attached to the right place?
Every imported figure is stamped with the authority it describes, that authority's official statistical code and the date it was imported. An automated audit then re-checks every published area against those stamps, confirms the coordinates used for point-level categories fall inside the area being named, and verifies that figures fetched by lookup came back for the authority actually requested. It runs across every area and every local authority we hold, not a sample. The full description is in the methodology.
How often is the data updated?
It depends on the publisher, and the data status page shows the last successful refresh for each one individually. House prices and employment are rebuilt daily, transport and air quality monthly, broadband roughly twice a year when Ofcom publishes, and education annually because that is how often each nation releases it. Nothing is refreshed more often than its source actually changes.
Do you use AI to generate any of the figures or reports?
No. Every number is computed from a published dataset by code we maintain, and no figure, score or report sentence is generated by a language model. The scoring formulas are documented in the methodology so any score can be recalculated by hand from the source data.
Is TrackPostcode.UK regulated financial advice?
No. Scores and the affordability calculator are guidance built from published statistics. TrackPostcode.UK is not authorised or regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority, and nothing on the site is financial, mortgage or investment advice.
More detail on the scoring is in the methodology, every dataset is listed on the data sources page, and the live health of each feed is on the data status page.
